Interpreting /stats responses

Newby-question here: /stats returns often show millions of “counts” for my searches. for example:{ "count": 10181598, "start_time": "2016-01-01T00:00:00.000000Z" },Compared to the planet explorer GUI online results with what is (I assume) the same filters, this is an extraordinary difference. I imagine that some of the metadata type files are also included in the “count” in this example, but it still seems like a very high number for my search criteria (which included, for this example, included item_type, permission, publishing, cloud, daterange, and geometry filters all fairly strict). How should I interpret the “count” value from the endpoint response? Are there indeed over 10 million images that meet this criteria? Finding basemap by mosaic_id but not by its name

I have a code that searches for the most recent basemap available.However, when I list all available mosaics, it only returns mosaics until the end of 2023. KeyError: 'id' when placing API order

Hello! I’m replicating the code found at this link https://github.com/planetlabs/notebooks/blob/master/jupyter-notebooks/Orders-API/ordering_and_delivery.ipynb with my own set of images and am receiving the error in the screenshot below when trying to place the order. For reference, I’m trying to pull all available analytic_8b_sr_udm2 products that overlap with my specified area of interest.I’m unsure if this is a problem with the API, the images I’m trying to order or the way I’ve written the code. My code is exactly the same as the one linked, except I performed a paginated quick search first and then copy and pasted the resulting item id list into the request code. That item id list has 786 image ids in it. Any insight someone can provide about what is causing this error and how to fix it would be so appreciated!

Clip tool to download images from API

Hello, everyone! I am downloading raster images clipped to 11 small aoi. It appears that my quota allocation is still counting the entire scene’s coverage area towards my monthly download quota, however. Does someone have script to make an order to download clipped images on aoi, for a time series. I will be very grateful as I tried and always get either errors or downloading the whole scenes which impact my monthly quota.Any info will be much appreciated.Thanks!

API Search only returns 250 ids

Hi, I am following the tutorial here to search for images lying within a bounding box. I only get 250 returns back for my aoi. Am I missing something? Please advise :) Cheers,Shashank

Question with planet image processing for NDVI

I have a question about how planet is processing NDVIs I can download a 4 or 8 band image from planet and then process it in Qgis using the NDVI formula (NIR-Red) / (NIR+Red) and get a nice looking NDVI.When I get the same image from the API and drag it into Qgis the image has much lower total reflectance its about 70% darker. For example in the hand processed image Low value Vs high value is .219 and .585 in the same image that is pulled from the API the value is -.04 and .268 In the subscription there is a line called bandmath. "type": "bandmath","parameters"": {"b1": "(b4-b3)/(b4+b3)"," "pixel_type": "32R"}} it looks like bandmath is running the same NDVI formula I am B4 is Nir and B3 is Red how am I getting such different values between the two processes and why is there negative values in every image I get? I have maybe once hand processed a good image that had a low of less than .12 ( a -.04 maybe) and never high much above .90 Any ideas what processing is going on with the plane

How to check if tile is available for zoom, x, y before making API call to get tile

We are loading PlanetScope and SkySat tiles into an application using Google Maps API V3. It automatically requests tiles via the Planet API based on zoom level and x and y values.Since Planet scenes may not take up the entire bounding box of the map, we are sometimes calling the API for x and y values that may not produce a tile.Is there a way of checking ahead of time whether a tile is available at the x and y location so as to reduce the calls to the Planet API if there is no tile there? We call the API on the server so as to hide the API key, then return the resulting PNG file to the browser.Many thanks for your help,Dan

Best way to go about getting Satellite Imagery on more zoomed in areas of interest?

I am working on a project where I am using satellite imagery to get updates on a basin in Texas. What is the best satellite/service to use in order to get the most clear images returned? I have an Enterprise L Account with Planet. What API should I be using to get the images? What is the best way to make sure I get the most clear images. Anytime it is a bit too zoomed in the images are basically pixels.

Orderding multiple scenes clipped with multiple AOIs

Hi all,I'm building a dataset for training a CNN. For this I need to acquire about 1000 PS scenes clipped to a rather small area of interest (around 600x600m). I've got the item id's and corresponding AOIs as polygons for all the images I need. Since the AOI for each PS scene is so small I want to use the clipping tool from orders API to spare our quota.My question is this: What is the best way to order multiple scenes clipped by multiple areas of interest?I've already written code (in Python) to acquire the images by sending an order for each image separately, but this solution seems a bit "brute-forcy" to me. Is there some more elegant solution to this? I know it is possible to order multiple scenes clipped by a single AOI in a single order but is it possible to order multiple scenes clipped by multiple AOIs? Thanks for your help!

Configs definition of keys (gte, gt, lt, lte, gsd ...)

Hi folks,I am working with the Data API and I have a question that is really not covered by documentation (https://developers.planet.com/docs/apis/data/searches-filtering/).What do these configs really mean (gte, gt, lt, lte, gsd...) ? Because some of them store not only one data type, for example lte:In the DateRangeFilter "lte":"2020-01-31T00:00:00Z", but in the RangeFilter it is a float - "lte":0.1, or even an integer (https://developers.planet.com/docs/apis/data/quick-saved-search/ or here https://developers.planet.com/docs/subscriptions/tools/). I created >100 orders using automatic scripts, but I can only retrieve 20 of them, the last 20. How can I see the rest of them? I get 20 orders both via the python Order API and the web browser….

Trying to access imagery outside of my Tier using the Subscription API

Hello Everyone! I am writing this post to ask if anyone knows what happens when you try to download imagery from outside of your signed Tier using the Subscription API. E.g. in my case, I have a contract that lets me download imagery for a given polygon from Japan (Tier 1), so if an user mistakenly tries to download data from, let’s say, the US, my subscription creation will fail and throw an error or will I be charged for this?I already read this documentation, however I could not find an explicit reference to this problem. Although, I am guessing I would get a 403 error (Unauthorized). I would appreciate it if someone could answer my question. Thanks in advance!

Checking the quota my subscription will consume before creating it

I am writing this post because I want to know if there is any response parameter, API call or tool that you can use to know exactly how much quota will be consumed by my subscription.Of course, I could calculate the area in sq kms using python or any other programming language but I am concerned about the rounding up errors, so I would like to get the exact value from Planet’s side before actually creating the subscription. I have noticed that in planet explorer there are tools that measure the area of your AOI but I will use the Subscription API to get data of my AOI for over long periods of time programmatically, so I will not use planet explorer.Also, I have read that there is an API for generating reports, called the reports API, but the documentation about it was rather scarce (I do not know whether in the report the quota usage per subscription will be included as I cannot use it) and also these reports are generated after creating the subscriptions, so this does not answer my qu

However, I've encountered an issue where none of these images fully cover the area of interest (AOI) that I'm working with. Download and crop an image using the API and gdalwrap in python

Apologize for the question but i am a beginner in programming.I am trying to write a script in Python and automatically download and crop a specific area using gdalwarp (I tried with the clip tool without success: https://developers.planet.com/apis/orders/tools/#using-tools).Although being able to get a clipped image, this is simply a black thumbnail (840KB).The final goal would be just to download the cropped part.At the moment I am downloading the full image and it creates the thumbnail mentioned above.The coordinates were extracted with the geojson.io toolCould be the problem related with the coordinate system (although the clipped image is quite small and let me think the issue is something else). Could you please advice what am I doing wrong? Clip tool implementation to download from Subscription API

Regarding the issue with our trial access, I have a question. While testing the capabilities of the Data API, it seems that there was some confusion between the 'GeometryFilter' and the 'Clip' tool in the Subscription API. We mistakenly believed that the 'GeometryFilter' would act as a clip and only provide us with the area of interest within the filter coordinates. However, it appears that it directed us to download an entire Planet Scope scene instead.Could anyone please provide clarification or guidance on how we can address this issue?"

SR Quarterly Basemaps with NIR

Hello, I would like to download the quarterly SR base maps, ideally the normalized images with NIR. API code to fetch NAIP data

How to get aggregated statistics of a long time series of PlanetScope data of a very small AOI

I was wondering, if planet’s APIs provide an option to get aggregated statistical data of a long time series (~1 year) of PlanetScope daily imagery of a very small area (<1ha) or even just a point/pixel without having to “manually” download all applicable tiles and calculate the aggregated statistics locally.Context: I want to extract average NDVI values of a small region for each day of a year and plot a time series of the NDVI development.Any help is much appreciated!
