Prior to the expiration of Planet’s previous CSDA contract with NASA I had been using the Planet API to download Planet SuperDove imagery straight into Google Earth Engine. When the contract expired, I lost access to imagery via the API but am hoping that is now reinstated. Have any changes been made to Planet access via the API with the new CSDA contract? Specifically, I’m curious about limits on 8-band SuperDove imagery downloads, as my project requires a lot.

I know that I can look at the latest L1 Data Quality Report to see a list of satellites which are currently active in the PlanetScope constellation. Is there anywhere I can see a list of all satellites that have ever been in the constellation?

Preparing Imagery for Time-Series Analysis

I am attempting to prepare PlanetScope imagery for a time-series analysis. I have read a bit about transforming imagery into Analysis-Ready Data (ARD), so I am aware of the general steps in the process. This is the high-level workflow I have come up with so far:masking --> normalization --> compositing --> co-registration However, I am not sure how to implement these steps. Does anyone have any resources that describe how to prepare imagery for time-series analysis in as much detail as possible? Some other details:I am using 8-band imagery from SuperDove sensors I have downloaded imagery as analytic surface reflectance at this point (but am open to other formats) I am using Python to acquire and process this imagery.Thanks for any help you can provide.

How is Scene Download usage calculated?

I downloaded PSScenes for two locations yesterday. One location’s extent was 0.003 km2, the other was similar. I downloaded 9 daily scenes for one location and 4 for the other. I got 8 bands for each day. My thinking, the total area for one location is 8 (bands) X 9 (days) X 0.003 km2 = 0.216 km2 for one location. The other location is about half that, since I had half as many days. However, my account dashboard says that I’ve used 1300 km2 this month, even though those were the only downloads I’ve done this month. Can someone clarify this for me, please?

Albedo estimation from Visible and NIR

Hello Everyone!I am a beginner, and I am trying to explore the possibility of estimating surface albedo using PlanetScope data. Since there are several established relationships between the visible and NIR bands from Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2, I was wondering if anyone has explored the use of PlanetScope data for surface albedo estimation.Can we use the visible and NIR bands from PlanetScope data to estimate surface albedo?I would really appreciate any help or insights.

PlanetScope VIs calculation

Hello I’m a beginner in GIS and have a few questions about calculating vegetation indices (VIs). Here are the details of my process: I have PlanetScope images (4 bands, 3B_AnalyticMS_SR). I successfully calculated NDVI, and the result was as expected, ranging from -1 to +1. However, when I tried to calculate EVI using this formula (2.5 * (NIR - Red) / ((NIR + 6 * Red - 7.5 * Blue) + 1), the results were strange, ranging from about -8000 to 6000. To address this, I normalized the band values (since some values exceeded 10,000) by dividing by 10,000. But even after that, some values were still greater than 1, which didn’t help. Then, I found a suggestion from somewhere in this community that I should convert the bands to TOA reflectance using coefficients from the metadata because the initial values are in Digital Numbers (DNs). After doing this, I got EVI values within the expected range of -1 to +1. But I’m not sure if this solution is correct. So, I have a few questions:Is the solutio

Product type description in metadata?

Hello,I have a question on the PlanetScope Harmonized surface reflectance data product’s metadata. Where in the metadata can I find an indication that the product is ‘harmonized’, as opposed to non-harmonized surface reflectance image products?I know ‘harmonized’ is an option during product order but how can I verify that I indeed downloaded the desired type of imagery? RGB reflectance ranges for proper RGB layer display on QGIS

I am having trouble in getting a clear display of a true color composite (TCI) of a harvested farm in north of India in QGIS. I am using Planetscope image of 2024 from the 8-band Superdove collection. This is a 2.5 acre farm. The TCI content is getting obscured by rainbow effect (‘Unclear.png’). The band ranges and other symbology details are given in ‘Unclear_specs.png’). I have attached a screenshot of the metadata of this farm for reference (‘Unclear_metadata.png’). What band value ranges or other parameters should I edit to see a clearer image?FYR, I have attached screenshots in the three categories for a larger farm (14 acres) that is harvested in one plot and tilled in other plots: Clear_14ac.png, Clear_14ac_specs.png, Clear_14ac_metadata.png. This farm has a very clear view. The clear confidence percent for this image is 95 as compared to the unclear farm (85) but that should not produce such a drastic difference in clarity given the clear percent in both images is 100.Please he

How do you balance the mosaic images?

What is the DEM used for orthorectification of PlanetScope images

We are using Planetscope images (psscene) for mapping surface displacement. Our work needs to know the DEM used in the orthorectification, so we can decide if we can un-orthorectify and re-orthorectify with the DEMs after an event. How can I get such information. Thanks,Chunli

Updating Subscription Geometries

Just got word that a few farmers submitted inaccurate geometries for their fields (maybe 7 or 8 fields in all). I looked at the sentinelhub API and there doesn’t appear to a means for updating a subscription so assuming I need to delete these 7 or 8 subscriptions and then subscribe to them again with the correct geometries? If this is not the case, please let me know. Was thinking there might be a way to just update the geometry for each field subscription but maybe not. Thank you.

Can we make a dataset prepared with Planet imagery public?

Hi everyoneI have prepared a dataset with Planet imagery, which I accessed under the “Planet Education & Research Program”. I wrote a conference paper on it, which is now published: M. A. I am looking for a list of all the historical and current norad ids for PlanetScope and the other collections. When I search online by name I am seeing some satellites up as Flock, but I don’t know where a complete list is. Where can I find a complete list of these satellites or their ids?

RGB band normalization from TIFF to JPEG in python yields weird hues & inconsistency

I am trying to use Python to convert a directory of 4 band PlanetScope Surface Reflectance TIFF tiles to RGB JPEGs so I can upload the smaller, easy to visualize JPEG files to LabelBox for manually labeling Arctic lakes as either ice covered or ice free.I have thrown together a script (relevant functions attached below) which reads in the bands from each of my downloaded TIFF files (I have around 100 right now) and normalizes each of them to 0-255 for conversion to JPEG. I have tried many different normalization algorithms, including histogram stretching, but all methods so far leave almost all my images with significant red, green or blue tint, which makes identifying which lakes are ice covered vs. ice free much more difficult (example of blue tint below.)Is there a way to automatically process RGB files for each of my scenes which will appear without these tints, more like the rgb preview images shown on Planet Explorer? (Or is there a way to directly download pre-processed RGB dir

Hi, I am using Planet Explorer for an educational research program.The other day, around 8 pm (CST), Explorer stopped retrieving images.Of course, I did not exceed the usage limit, nor did I change any settings, I was logged in and using it as usual.I can't find a solution whether this behavior is a bug or a problem on our end.If you could help us, we would appreciate your response.
