Planet has enhanced the availability of PlanetScope images by lifting the existing restrictions on publishing unrectified images, and therefore increasing the amount of published images.

Starting on July 19, 2023, PlanetScope customers can expect a noticeable increase in the availability of published imagery over their area of interest (AOI) and their time of interest (TOI), especially over coastal, water and very cloudy regions.

  • Users will observe less gaps between images in a given strip.
  • Planet expects the global publication rate to increase by approximately 10%.

Analysis has shown that 90% of unrectified images are fully cloud covered and provide minimal value. However, with this effort, Planet plans to increase the understanding of Dove collection rates for both the AOI and the TOI.

More information about the changes and what this means is available in the Publishing All Unrectified PlanetScope Imagery Knowledge Base article.
