Deforestation in the Rawa Singkil Wildlife Sanctuary conservation area has increased yearly since 2019. From monitoring results using satellite data and supported by Glad Alert-GFW alert data, HaKa researchers found that the Rawa Singkil SM area had undergone a relatively significant shift from forest to non-forest this year.

Lukmanul Hakim, director of HAKA's Geographic Information System, mentioned that deforestation in the first seven months of 2022 is already more significant than the total amount in the last three years. The specialist said that the NICFI Basemaps help detects the monthly deforestation in the Leuser Ecosystem in Aceh. According to their findings, the Wildlife Sanctuary lost 338 hectares of forest in 2021 (165 hectares), 2020 (43 hectares) and 2019 (28 hectares). The specialist also mentioned that this incident is not uncommon and should be monitored.

HaKa hold a press conference to involve local authorities in the search for a better response to these deforestation incidents.

@andrea.cardenas another deforestation app. Where possible, we should pool these outputs into regional and global reports.
