In 2021, The Global Land Analysis and Discovery (GLAD) lab at the University of Maryland identified areas of newly cleared forest in Lábrea, Amazonas, close to the indigenous and protected lands. Based on the satellite imagery provided by Planet, deforestation occurred in four areas and covers around 2,115 hectares (5,226 acres).
