Hi all,
I’m working on mapping glaciers and recently used the planet monthly and quarterly basemaps as a source for high resolution data in several glaicerized regions. I like to extend the mapping task to Svalbard, yet, unfortunately no basemaps are available for this region. Would it be possible to add it as a “new basemap region” and get monthly and quarterly basemaps at least for July-September or 3rd quarter in each year (Potentially also April-June and 2nd quarter). Checking the daily scenes, cloud-free mosaics should be feasible in this area in general. For the quarterly basemap, it would be best to prioritize images from August and early September to minimize snow cover.
Thank you for considering the idea and looking forward to hearing back from you!
Kind regards,
Thomas
Thank you for submitting an idea, it is under review and open for discussion and voting. This is the investigation stage when we gather more information.
For my purposes, it would be really great to get all land area north of 74 degrees during the summer (monthly and/or quarterly for July-September, as above). We are hoping to produce a circumpolar map of Retrogressive Thaw Slumps (a form of abrupt permafrost thaw responsible for emitting an outsized amount of carbon dioxide and methane relative to their size to the atmosphere). With the eventual goal of producing these maps annually, it just wouldn’t be feasible for us to purchase individual scenes and do all the processing work ourselves.
