There should be a bulk download option within our Basemap Viewer. For people who are not comfortable with the API or the CLI, clicking the download button next to each individual basemap quad is cumbersome, and each quad downloads as its own file rather than a single bulk file which clutters the downloads folder.

Additionally, the nomenclature of the basemap quads should indicate their date. Pausing to throw 50 quads from one month into a single dated folder before moving on to the next month to ensure I’m organizing the right data together is time consuming. Also when the quads are actually in my GIS, I have no immediate way of knowing the date of the quad I’m looking at.

Couldn’t agree more with this idea Joel!! A bulk download option in Explorer would be a game changer for so many users !

Explorer is not naturally designed for bulk downloading. Planet’s CLI now supports bulk downloading of basemaps.

Echoing that the naming should be improved with acquired date, and the asset type (e.g., biweek visual).

Agreed! Now PlanetScope is finally making me learn Python 😆🤓.
