A story of how your ideas can help improve Planet’s data and products!

We would like to share some stories of how our customers’ ideas have been implemented in Planet’s data and tools, to show how your ideas can make a difference at Planet. A customer reported a bug on filtering the Reports API and stated that there was no possibility to query a 1-day interval. When filtering reports by date, if the start and end dates were the same, the API would return an error. So, the shortest option was two days. After sharing this issue, the customer helped us to improve this feature. Now it is possible to query a 1 day interval in the reports API. As can be seen in this example, you can share your ideas with us and make a difference in Planet’s data and tools. Click here to submit your ideas and let your voice be heard!

Satellite Data shows the Oder River disaster

EOMAP -a world leading company for optical remote sensing of marine and freshwater environments and one of Planet’s partners, has recently published their work on how they reveal the details and possible reasons for massive fish kill in the Oder River between Germany and Poland, using Planet data. As algae has been considered as one of the significant causes of this disaster, researchers at EOMAP could focus on algae bloom with regard and location thanks to the frequent and precise satellite data. “Planet’s daily satellite images were able to show for the first time, in great accuracy, where and how quickly chlorophyll concentrations and other water quality parameters developed downstream of the Oder River over this summer,” Dr. Marcus Apel, Director of Business Development at Planet. Planet Signs Contract to Provide German Federal Agencies with Daily Satellite Imagery

Planet Pulse: Planet Labs Germany GmbH, has signed a new contract with the German Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) to provide the agency with daily, high-resolution satellite data for crisis response, environmental and nature conservation, as well as forest and agricultural monitoring. The BKG uses Planet’s remote sensing data, among other datasets, to produce up-to-date analyses of environmental changes caused by climate change. When did GIS day start being celebrated?

Since 1999, GIS day has been celebrated annually on the third Wednesday of November. This day was inspired by activist and lawyer Ralph Nader, who wanted to encourage people to learn more about geography, GIS and its uses. It was firstly initiated by ESRI during the Geography Awareness Week in 1999. Today, GIS Day continues to gather geography enthusiasts around the world and contributes to the international awareness of GIS technology.
