Proton levels associated with the M5.7 X-ray flare have decreased to a level where we are able to resume standard operations for the satellite fleet. Our high resolution imaging fleet has resumed imaging and we expect medium resolution imaging to resume within the next several hours. We will continue to monitor solar activity as the satellite fleet is brought back online.Check out Planet's Status Page for more information! 

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued an alert for an M5.7 X-ray flare (see swpc.noaa.gov/news/r2-mod-hf-radio-blackout-and-s2-mod-solar-radiation-storm-17-july-2023 for details). This solar flare has resulted in radiation levels that have exceeded our operational thresholds for imaging operations across Planet's satellite fleets. Planet plans for events like this and we have implemented our safety procedures to ensure our satellite fleet is not impacted. During this time imaging will not be available. Like any space weather event, the length can be unpredictable so we will be posting updates to Planet's Status Page when available (at a minimum every 24hr) until this is resolved.

Planet Community is celebrating World Oceans Day!World Oceans Day is an international day that is celebrated annually on 8 June. In 1992, it was first proposed by Canada’s Centre for Ocean Development (ICOD) and the Ocean Institute of Canada (OIC) at the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Ocean Day Project started to promote this day globally and collaborate with international partners in 2002. Finally, "World Oceans Day" was officially recognised by the United Nations General Assembly  in 2008. You can find more information about World Oceans Day here.Happy World Oceans Day! I go hiking 3-4 times a week, as I am fortunate to live near some nice hilly landscapes in Southern California. This image is one that I took along my usual route. I love this time to connect to nature and I enjoy listening to audiobooks while I hike.  Idil Gumus: This picture was taken during the pandemic three years ago. The only thing that I could do was going for a walk or to the supermarket at that time. I created this corner to feel the peacefulness of nature.
