Satellite Imagery in Medical Field
I recently read about researchers using satellite imagery to measure the probability of a disease outbreak of monkeypox. The research is based on the encroachment of human settlements into dense forests with known habitat for rope squirrels who transmit the disease. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3237841/ I would love to hear about medical studies using Planet imagery.
Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) analysis using Planet imagery - Lago Argentino/Brazo Rico, Argentina. Geography BSc thesis extracts.
Here I present some of the research outputs from my analysis of the 2016 and 2018 Glacier Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in the Brazo Rico-Lago Argentino lake system in Argentina. Below is a collation of the key diagrammatic representations of how I utilised Planet data to inform and guide my analysis. In QGIS, I measured changes in lake area and glacier advance using these images and aligned this with lake depth data to provide a reconstruction of the dynamics of the 2016 and 2018 damming and GLOF events. Please reach out if you are interested to discuss or see more of my study’s outputs!
Bathymetry from SuperDove Imagery!
In our recent paper, river water depths up to 20 m are inferred from SuperDove imagery and the results are compared with those from Landsat-9 imagery! Vey promising results from the 8-band SuperDove CubeSats! Check out our open access paper here:https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/9810335
Planet Imagery Reveals: Impact of COVID-19 Lockdown on the Clarity of Water in Venice Lagoon
I would like to share another study that we carried out using PlanetScope imagery in the context of water quality monitoring. This study investigated the impacts of COVID-19 lockdown on the clarity of water in the Venice Lagoon! Check out more details in our open access paper: https://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/12/15/2381

Analyzing landslide using Planet imagery
Hello, community. This is my first post. So, I want to share a quick application of Planet imagery for analyzing landslides. The study case is in a small province in Peru's Andes. This disaster destroyed more than 100 houses. Fortunately, there were very few fatalities. You can read more about this event at this link.
Difference between the two types of files harmonized clip and udm2
Good Day Planet Community !Please let me know the answers to the following questions. What is the difference between the two types of files harmonized clip and udm2 ? How to delete an order placed through Planet explorer? I have mistakenly placed the same order twice.Thank you for your support.
Planet data in DataCubes
Hi Community,I feel there is a need to make the step from analyzing just a couple of eo images to analyzing hundreds or more images for many applications. Even local solutions involve many images. Building data cubes seems to be a good solution, I would like to hear what your experience is with (local) data cube environments or frameworks and Planet data! Some exciting solutions are around, such as rasdaman, opendatacube, and gdalcubes. Google earth engine seems to be working, but I don’t think I get the code to deploy GEE on our infrastructure. However, so far, I haven’t found reading procedure for planet data, whereas the usual (and boring 😜) Sentinel and Landsat data seem to be supported out of the box.It would be very interesting to get inspiration.Cheers 🤙,Christoph
Daily product in production
We are building an automated daily product based on the analytic_8b_udm2 bundle and having trouble coming up with a process for quick search + ordering assets. We recognize there is a processing time and that time varies. Is there anything in the API to know if an AOI doesn’t have that asset available for that day at all? Or is currently processing?
PlanetScope 4 Band Images - "File Not Georeferenced", "gray", RGB confusion
See above image. I’m having an issue where in some versions of QGIS my downloaded PlanetScope imagery looks like the right image where the bands seem to be shortened/ not rendering properly at all and the error of “this file is not georeferenced”. Is there a known source for this problem? 2. At times, select geotiffs state the properties of the geotiff state that there are no labelled bands, just that one band out of the 4 is “Gray”. Is there a resource that explains the meaning/source of this and how this may impact my data? (see above image)From question 1, the image on the left. I am told that the the correct order of the bands is BGR but The RGB bands are inconsistently labelled with Band 1: blue (Red) - what is the reasoning behind this and what is the true intended color of the band? (see above image)
Assets link returning empty content? Data API
I’m trying to list an item’s assets (see https://developers.planet.com/docs/apis/data/reference/#tag/Items-and-Assets/operation/ListItemAssets), but the response is empty for some reason. For example, if I send a get request to https://api.planet.com/data/v1/item-types/PSScene/items/20220101_224552_0f21/assets/ (with my API key), I get a 200 response code but the data is just empty brackets. Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong?
Surface Reflectance Basemap Quad download via API
Hello Planet-Community,I want to try Planet surface reflectance basemaps (https://developers.planet.com/docs/data/sr-basemaps/) to evaluate if it is suitable for my research project before purchasing wider access. In particular, I want to download a GeoTiff quad tile of a quarterly basemap mosaic via Python, as I have already implemented a processing tool chain which works for another satellite image provider. However, despite quite some effort, I could not yet fetch a single Planet basemap quad and are struggling with a bunch of problems:1) How to access surface reflectance basemaps (BGRN) via the browser on https://www.planet.com/basemaps or through the QGIS plugin? I followed the instructions given at https://developers.planet.com/docs/integrations/qgis/discover-basemaps/, but can view only visual (RGB) basemaps.2) How to get an overview of recent quarterly basemaps at zoom level 16? I queried the basemap overview as described in https://developers.planet.com/docs/basemaps/ with cur
Issue with API's harmonization tool
Hi Planet Community,My team and I are trying to download clipped and harmonized imagery through the API, the clip tool is running but the harmonized isn’t.We are working with the Surface Reflectance product bundle, so we defined Sentinel - 2 as the target sensor.Below, are the screenshots of the code we are using in Visual Studio IDLE. The goal is to integrate the workflow into an ArcGIS Toolbox. If anyone has worked with this tool or knows the reason why our code is failing we’ll be glad for the help. Thanks in advance.
